FEDUJAZZ Students Shine at POP Marketplace 2018
FEDUJAZZ students, supported by their teachers and a special guest, performed both jazz classics and new songs at the Discover Puerto Plata Marketplace yesterday, 4 October 2018. “Performance opportunities are an important part of a student’s musical training,” says FEDUJAZZ voice teacher Shaudi Bianca Vahdat. “The best way to learn how to perform and use your music to connect with an audience is by doing it. Through opportunities like this, students learn to rely on their bandmates and develop their self confidence. And they learn that performing is fun!” In addition to Vahdat, the students were joined by FEDUJAZZ guitar and bass teacher Jesús Elías Jiménez Geraldo, piano teacher Rodolfo Morales Minaya, and special guest Orion Morales González, Global Jazz Ambassador at Berklee College of Music and leader of the Fundación Amigos de Orion Lion-Música como agente de cambio project, a program with which select Chilean students are awarded scholarships in some of the most prestigious universities in the country since 2015. González joined the students onstage on piano, and also directed the rehearsals leading up to the performance. The students were all smiles after their show, singing and clapping all the way back on the car ride to Cabarete.
